For the Salisbury Steak Patties:
- 1 pound ground beef (80/20 for best flavor)
- ¼ cup breadcrumbs (or crushed crackers)
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon olive oil (for frying)
For the Mushroom Gravy:
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 small onion (thinly sliced)
- 8 ounces mushrooms (sliced)
- 2 cloves garlic (minced)
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch (mixed with 2 tablespoons water, for thickening)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
1. Make the Patties:
- In a large bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
- Form the mixture into 4 oval-shaped patties.
2. Cook the Patties:
- Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Cook the patties for 3-4 minutes per side, until browned. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
3. Make the Mushroom Gravy:
- In the same skillet, melt 1 tablespoon butter and sauté the onions and mushrooms for about 5 minutes, until softened.
- Stir in the garlic and cook for another 30 seconds.
- Pour in the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and Dijon mustard. Stir well and bring to a simmer.
- Stir in the cornstarch slurry and cook for another 2-3 minutes, until the gravy thickens.
4. Combine & Serve:
- Return the patties to the skillet and spoon the gravy over them. Simmer for 5 more minutes.
- Serve hot with mashed potatoes, rice, or buttered noodles. Enjoy!
