Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients:

  • 1 ¾ cups (220 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt

Wet Ingredients:

  • 3 ripe bananas, mashed (about 1 ½ cups)
  • ½ cup (115 g) unsalted butter, melted
  • ¾ cup (150 g) granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Mix-ins:

  • ¾ cup (130 g) chocolate chips (semi-sweet or dark)
  • Optional: ½ cup (60 g) chopped nuts (e.g., walnuts or pecans)

Instructions

1. Preheat the Oven:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan or line it with parchment paper.

2. Mix the Dry Ingredients:

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

3. Prepare the Wet Ingredients:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, mash the bananas until smooth.
  2. Add the melted butter, sugar, egg, and vanilla extract to the bananas. Mix until well combined.

4. Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients:

  1. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring gently until just combined. Do not overmix.
  2. Fold in the chocolate chips (and nuts, if using).

5. Bake the Bread:

  1. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and spread it evenly.
  2. Bake for 55–65 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  3. If the top starts browning too quickly, tent the bread loosely with aluminum foil during the last 15 minutes of baking.

6. Cool and Serve:

  1. Let the banana bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
  2. Slice and enjoy warm or at room temperature!

Notes

  • Ripe Bananas: The riper the bananas, the sweeter and more flavorful your bread will be.
  • Chocolate Variation: Use white chocolate chips, dark chocolate chunks, or a mix for variety.
  • Storage: Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or in the fridge for up to a week. It also freezes well for up to 3 months.
