This Ultimate Baked Spaghetti is the perfect combination of classic spaghetti flavors with a cheesy, baked twist! Layers of tender spaghetti, rich meat sauce, and gooey cheese make this dish a family favorite. It’s easy to prepare and perfect for weeknight dinners, potlucks, or meal prep.

For the Meat Sauce:

  • 1 lb ground beef (or Italian sausage)
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (24 oz) jar marinara sauce
  • 1 (14 oz) can diced tomatoes, drained
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)

For the Pasta Layer:

  • 12 oz spaghetti
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

For the Cheese Layer:

  • 1 cup ricotta cheese (or cottage cheese)
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp dried basil

For Topping:

  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Step 1: Cook the Pasta

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook spaghetti until just al dente (about 1–2 minutes less than package directions).
  2. Drain and toss with butter, beaten eggs, and Parmesan cheese. Set aside.

Step 2: Prepare the Meat Sauce

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef (or sausage) until browned. Drain excess fat if needed.
  2. Add onion and garlic, cooking for 2–3 minutes until softened.
  3. Stir in marinara sauce, diced tomatoes, Italian seasoning, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Simmer for 10 minutes.

Step 3: Assemble the Baked Spaghetti

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Spread half of the spaghetti mixture into the dish.
  3. Layer with half of the meat sauce and then half of the ricotta mixture.
  4. Repeat layers: remaining spaghetti, meat sauce, and ricotta mixture.
  5. Sprinkle mozzarella and Parmesan on top.

Step 4: Bake & Serve

  1. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes.
  2. Remove foil and bake for another 10–15 minutes, until cheese is bubbly and golden.
  3. Let sit for 5–10 minutes before slicing. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve!

Notes

  • Make it ahead: Assemble the dish up to 24 hours in advance, refrigerate, then bake when ready.
  • Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for 3–4 days.
  • Freezing: Freeze before or after baking for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight in the fridge before reheating.
  • Want it extra cheesy? Add an extra 1/2 cup of mozzarella on top before baking!
