This Ultimate Baked Spaghetti is the perfect combination of classic spaghetti flavors with a cheesy, baked twist! Layers of tender spaghetti, rich meat sauce, and gooey cheese make this dish a family favorite. It’s easy to prepare and perfect for weeknight dinners, potlucks, or meal prep.

For the Meat Sauce:
- 1 lb ground beef (or Italian sausage)
- 1 small onion, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (24 oz) jar marinara sauce
- 1 (14 oz) can diced tomatoes, drained
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
For the Pasta Layer:
- 12 oz spaghetti
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- 2 large eggs, beaten
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
For the Cheese Layer:
- 1 cup ricotta cheese (or cottage cheese)
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp dried basil
For Topping:
- 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
Step 1: Cook the Pasta
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook spaghetti until just al dente (about 1–2 minutes less than package directions).
- Drain and toss with butter, beaten eggs, and Parmesan cheese. Set aside.
Step 2: Prepare the Meat Sauce
- In a large skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef (or sausage) until browned. Drain excess fat if needed.
- Add onion and garlic, cooking for 2–3 minutes until softened.
- Stir in marinara sauce, diced tomatoes, Italian seasoning, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Simmer for 10 minutes.
Step 3: Assemble the Baked Spaghetti
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Spread half of the spaghetti mixture into the dish.
- Layer with half of the meat sauce and then half of the ricotta mixture.
- Repeat layers: remaining spaghetti, meat sauce, and ricotta mixture.
- Sprinkle mozzarella and Parmesan on top.
Step 4: Bake & Serve
- Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes.
- Remove foil and bake for another 10–15 minutes, until cheese is bubbly and golden.
- Let sit for 5–10 minutes before slicing. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve!
Notes
- Make it ahead: Assemble the dish up to 24 hours in advance, refrigerate, then bake when ready.
- Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for 3–4 days.
- Freezing: Freeze before or after baking for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight in the fridge before reheating.
- Want it extra cheesy? Add an extra 1/2 cup of mozzarella on top before baking!
